About this test
Doppler adds flow direction and velocity to the ultrasound image. It is the test for deep vein thrombosis and varicose veins, for carotid narrowing after a stroke or TIA, and in pregnancy for assessing how well the placenta is supplying the baby.
What it measures
- Venous doppler for deep vein thrombosis
- Carotid and peripheral arterial studies
- Obstetric and 4-D colour doppler
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
