About this test

A reading taken in a clinic is often higher than the true average — white-coat hypertension — and some people have the reverse. ABPM measures automatically through normal activity and sleep, and the night-time average in particular predicts risk better than any single reading.

What it measures

  • Daytime, night-time and 24-hour average pressures
  • Nocturnal dipping pattern
  • Proportion of readings above target

A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
