About this test
An electric field separates serum proteins into bands by size and charge. A single sharp extra band — a paraprotein — is the signature of myeloma and related conditions, and the pattern of the normal bands also carries information about inflammation, liver disease and protein loss.

- Albumin and the alpha, beta and gamma globulin fractions
- Presence, position and size of any monoclonal band
