About this test
Beta-2 microglobulin reflects both the amount of tumour present and how well the kidney clears it, so it is part of the standard staging of multiple myeloma and carries prognostic weight in lymphoma. It rises in renal impairment for reasons unrelated to cancer.
What it measures
- Serum beta-2 microglobulin
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
