About this test
CT acquires a full body region in seconds, which is why it is used in emergencies and where a patient cannot keep still. It is superior to MRI for bone detail, lung tissue, acute bleeding and stones. It does involve X-rays, so the dose is weighed against the benefit each time.
What it measures
- Brain CT, including for stroke and head injury
- Chest, abdomen and pelvis
- CT urography and angiography with contrast
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
