About this test
A blood test avoids stopping antihistamines and can be done when eczema covers the skin, unlike skin-prick testing. Worth knowing: a positive IgE shows sensitisation, which is not the same as clinical allergy — the result has to be read against what actually happens on exposure.

- Specific IgE to inhaled allergens: dust mite, pollens, moulds, animal dander
- Specific IgE to common food allergens
