About this test
17-OH progesterone builds up when the enzyme that converts it is deficient, which is what happens in congenital adrenal hyperplasia. It is measured in newborns with ambiguous genitalia or salt-wasting, and in women with excess body hair, irregular periods or difficulty conceiving.
What it measures
- Serum 17-hydroxyprogesterone
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
