About this test
Thyroglobulin is made only by thyroid tissue. Once the thyroid has been removed and treated, the level should be undetectable, so any rise is followed up as possible residual or recurrent disease. It is a monitoring test rather than a screening one.
What it measures
- Serum thyroglobulin
- Thyroglobulin antibody, as interference check
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
