About this test
Creatine kinase leaks out of damaged muscle, so it rises in myositis, muscular dystrophy and rhabdomyolysis, and also after heavy exercise or a statin side-effect. It is the test that tells muscle weakness apart from muscle damage.
What it measures
- Total creatine phosphokinase (CPK)
- Aldolase
- LDH
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
