About this test
MRI shows soft tissue in a detail no other modality matches, which makes it the test of choice for the brain and spinal cord, ligaments and cartilage, and for characterising tumours. Scans take between twenty minutes and an hour, and require lying still inside the scanner.
What it measures
- Brain, spine and head and neck studies
- Musculoskeletal joint imaging
- Abdominal and pelvic MRI, including MRCP and MRA
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
