About this test
CMV is harmless in most healthy adults but consequential in two groups: a first infection in pregnancy can affect the baby's hearing and development, and reactivation after transplant or during immunosuppression can be serious. PCR quantifies it, which is how treatment is guided.
What it measures
- CMV DNA detection and viral load
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
