About this test
Cardiac MRI measures volumes and function more accurately than echo and, uniquely, shows scar and inflammation within the heart muscle itself. That makes it the test for myocarditis, cardiomyopathy, and for judging whether muscle after a heart attack is still viable.
What it measures
- Ventricular volumes and ejection fraction
- Late gadolinium enhancement showing scar
- Myocardial oedema and inflammation
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
