About this test
Fasting blood glucose measures your blood sugar after an overnight fast, when it should be at its lowest. It is the quickest and cheapest way to screen for diabetes and pre-diabetes, though HbA1c gives a fuller picture because a single reading can be thrown off by illness, stress or a late meal.
