About this test
A low faecal elastase indicates exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, which causes fatty stools, weight loss and vitamin deficiency, and follows chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis and pancreatic surgery. Enzyme replacement treats it effectively once identified.
What it measures
- Faecal elastase-1
A note on results. A single test is one part of a clinical picture, not a diagnosis. Discuss your report with a qualified doctor, who will read it alongside your history and examination.
